MV Hurricane: Day 6 - Ras Shona

Our final day brought us back in closer to short in preparation for the journey home from Marsa Alam. Typically, on the last day of a liveaboard, you’re winding down, thinking you’ve seen the best of the diving already. However, our final two dives on Ras Shona proved to be some of the most picturesque of the whole trip.

The bay has some stunning hard coral cover on the south side. That site alone had the biggest concentration of fish I’d seen all week. On our second dive on the north side of the bay we stumbled across a variety of interesting macro life, including some cleaner shrimp, bubble coral shrimp and a colourful nudibranch, Nembrotha megalocera.

I think I captured some of the best video of the week on this very last dive: there’s nothing like a sandy bottom and lack of current to help the amateur videographer! Wall diving in 4 knots is all very well, but a bit shelter goes a long way to getting better results, I think. I can feel I’m headed towards the classic photographer’s addiction to muck diving…
