Despite the weather being against us, I did manage to capture a few sequences of weedy seadragons on our recent trip to Tasmania. Luckily for me, I had Keith Martin-Smith, the University of Tasmania’s resident seadragon expert, on hand to show me where to look.
Visibility was less than ideal, so the video is a little murkier than I’d have liked. I also seemed to plagued on this trip in particular by bubbles on the outside of the port. I suspect I wasn’t paying quite as much attention as normal, distracted as I was, by the rather cool 16 degree water!
However, it was a real pleasure to see the seadragons. One thing that caught me by surprise – they are really much bigger than I’d imagined. Large adults seem to reach lengths of up to 10 inches or so.
