Canyon wall

Canyon wall

June 2008

This is the canyon wall that lies above False Kiva in Canyonlands National Park (although not in the official guides and without any marked trailhead, those who want to find it will). We ventured down to False Kiva in the middle of a hot June day, Mad-dogs-and-Englishmen-style with our umbrellas for some shade (which proved an excellent idea). The light was not conducive to anything decent photographically. However, as we were leaving, the broken zig-zag of the sandstone canyon-wall caught my eye. The reflected light on the wall itself (as opposed to the direct light on the false kiva) created a wonderful glow.
