Just what I’ve been looking for. You’ve done a fine job creating a tool that no landscape photographer should be without.

As Don said this is a fantastic tool that every phototgrapher MUST have. I have used it on several oocasions to plan a shoot and it was spot on. In fact, I did get one shot that I didn’t think was possible at this time of year and TPE proved me wrong.
However, I’m planning a trip to Iceland and have been using TPE to get some perspective of what to expect. In doing so I have found TPE GPS map locations don’t match what GOOGLE Earth says nor what Icelandic site specify. Specifically Landmannalauger.

Hi Bob – thanks for stopping by. Do you have any other placename examples I could try? I can’t get any search results for Landmannalauger in TPE, even though the program uses Google’s own geo-location service…

Thanks,

Stephen

Stephen, all the searches I did with place names came up with the correct locations. No issues there I could find. However, places like Landmannalauger are not searchable as you know. So I used the GPS location on the top of the TPE map and scrolled around to get to the location I was after. This is where the discrepancy shows up. The actual location for Landmannalauger is 63.59 26.73N, 19.03 37.32W. If you look on Google Earth you can actually see the camp ground at Landmannalauger. On TPE if you navigate using the GPS cordinates on the top of the map you end up in the middle of the glacier. Not sure why that would be so. Hope that helps in trying to explain what I am finding. If there is user error on my part please let me know. Like I said this is a fantastic tool and thanks for making it available.

Hi Bob – I tried the coordinates you included in your post and I can see the campground in TPE as well as Google Earth. Can I check one thing: are you converting to decimal degrees from Degrees/Minutes/Seconds? The coordinates in your comment are in Degrees/Minutes/Seconds, but TPE gives decimal degrees. I think the coordinates you need in TPE are 63.9908N 19.0604W. Let me know if that makes sense.

Cheers,

Stephen

Hi Stephen,
Just wanted to thank you for this great program. I am often trying to pre visualize photo shots at different times and dates. I have a quick question. Can I manually enter Lat and Long GPS information in the Location Panel?
Hats off for this super program.

Saw a mention of iPhone sign-ups but can’t see how to do that. Definitely interested! Thanks!

Just tried to install TPE on my new Windows 7 Ultimate computer. Adobe AIR is already installed, but the installer still wants to install it again. How do I handle that? Thanks! ;-)

Wonderful little program!

Do you know if it will run on a Windows Mobile device? My guess is that if Adobe AIR will run on Windows Mobile, so will TPE.

Hi Stephen,
I have just tried to download TPE as this will be of considerable use to me. When I try to run it, it fails with:
The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author.
I saw somewhere that TPE should have Adobe AIR 1.5 available for it to run. I have version 2.0.3. Is this the reason for failure? If so is there a version of TPE that will run with 2.0.3?
Best regards
Paul
